The Brainerd VFW Auxiliary sponsors this contest each year for grade schoolers living within 50 miles of Brainerd, MN. All students K-8 are invited and encouraged to participate. The contest deadline is March 31st each year.
2026 awards were presented to the winners on Tuesday, May 12th at 7 pm at the Brainerd VFW.
Sue Sterling, left most in the photo, is the Brainerd VFW Auxiliary Chairman for this competition.

February 25, 2026: Sue Sterling, Coordinator of the Brainerd VFW Illustrating Art Contest, was interviewed on R&J Broadcasting at 8 am. They were heard on Brainerd radio stations WWWI-AM & FM, KLKS Pequot Lakes, as well as KKIN-AM & FM in Aitkin.
