Eighth grade student Max Wehseler read his first-place winning essay in the recent Patriot's Pen writing competition.
The class this day was for fifth and sixth graders. |
The one-hour class included answering questions by students asking about life in the military.
Larry Christiansen read the meaning of each of the 13 folds while the Honor Guard showed folding the American Flag. Then students got a chance to do flag folding under the guidance of the veterans.
It was pointed out that there is a flag ceremony at Mount Rushmore at each day at sunset. Veterans are invited to the stage to fold the flag.
Thank You cards came later to the Brainerd VFW.
February 2, 2022: Brainerd VFW members Mike Williams and Mark Persons gave a talk about life in the military to students at the Brainerd Senior High School. Williams was in the Navy and Army for twenty-two years while Persons was in the Army for three years. Both served in Vietnam and had many stories to tell along with answering questions in the 40-minute session. The Brainerd Public School's mission, in partnership with the community, is to ensure all students achieve their individual potential by providing the highest-quality programs and resources to prepare learners for an ever-changing global society. One of the ways in which BHS fulfills this mission is by connecting students with professionals within our community.
