September 14, 2024, The Minnesota Twins played the Cincinatti Reds in an evening game on Armed Forces Appreciation Day. The Reds won the day, but the Twins will keep trying.
September 10, 2023: Vietnam veterans and their spouses were invited guests of the Twins. The event was coordinated by the Minnesota National Guard. Vietnam veterans were honored on the field, commemorating 50 years since troops were withdrawn from that war-torn country.
It started with a ceremony at the Twins Amphitheatre where medals were pinned on Vietnam veterans by members of the Minnesota National Guard. Brainerd post member Mark Persons was pinned by Sergeant Stephans, a current day soldier. Mark was in Vietnam 1968-69. The two have a lot in common at the rank of Sergeant E5.
Then it was on to the field where veterans were honored.
Three military helicopters flew over while the veterans were being honed by cheers from the crowd.
Of interest was Pam Barrows from Farmington, Minnesota. She was a 1st Lieutenant, serving as a nurse in Pleiku Vietnam. She enjoyed hearing stories from other Vietnam veterans at the game.
Play Ball
National Guard members played music during a break in the game.
