Radio advertising October 1 through 31, 2024: The annual Veterans of Foreign Wars’ Patriot’s Pen writing contest for school grades 6 through 8 and the Voice of Democracy speaking contest for grades 9 through 12 are now in progress. These patriotic writing and speaking competitions bring financial rewards and recognition to local students. Some go on to national. The submission deadline is October 31st. The Brainerd VFW reminds everyone to attend the annual Memorial Day ceremonies on May 27th, honoring those who died in service to our country. Ceremonies start at 9 am on the Laurel Street Bridge, then 9:45 at the All-Veterans Memorial. There will be a 10:30 parade on 3rd Avenue and an 11 O’clock ceremony, with the BHS band, at Evergreen Cemetery. Then lunch for veterans and their families at the Brainerd Legion. National Vietnam Veterans Day is being celebrated again this year at the Brainerd VFW on Friday, March 22nd from 4 to 7 pm. Vietnam veterans and their significant others are invited for free food and beverage. They are encouraged to bring photos and memorabilia to share and to talk about their experiences.
