May 13, 2025: Veterans and spouses gathered at the Brainerd CBOC (Community Based Outpatient Clinic) to hear the latest from the Veterans Administration. Those who haven't, will need to move over to the VA.GOV using LogIn.gov or ID.ME to log into the VA for medical care system. The deadline is September 30, 2025. Help can be obtained by calling 320-252-1670, the Virtual Healthcare Center.
The BrainerdVA Clinic will likely move in two years to a location offering twice the square footage with expanded care. No word on where that might be in the Brainerd/Baxter area. Right now, the clinic offers doctor care, pharmacy, nutrition instruction, optometry, hearing aids, blood testing, X-rays and even Acupuncture.
2.2 Million PACT claims have been processed resulting in $177 Million to disability compensation to 116,000 veterans and survivors. They are working on a backlog of claims at this time.
The St. Cloud VA system, which clinics in Brainerd, Alexandria and Montevideo, MN, has 1900 employees. The VA is returning to in-person work instead of work from home. In addition, some 15% of the employees will be let go in the most recent cost reduction move. The plan is to increase VA efficiency. It was explained that the cost reduction will not affect service to the veterans. Some 78% of local veterans are enrolled in the VA health care system. Report by Mark Persons
May 14, 2024: There was a Town Hall meeting at the Brainerd VA CBOC (Community Based Outpatient Clinic). The big news was they are searching for a new location in the Brainerd area. There is a proposed completion date of 2027. No location has been selected yet. The idea is to expand VA services in Brainerd.
VA Doctor Javed Tunio answered questions about existing services and explained he is hoping to improve VA care in a holistic way.
Crow Wing County Veteran Service Officer Erik Flowers was there to answer questions and offer his help to veterans.
Story from a Town Hall, May 1, 2018: A Vietnam Veterans Recognition and Veterans Town Hall meeting was held at the Veterans Administration Clinic in Brainerd. Vietnam veterans were recognized for their service and given a proclamation along with a handshake and medal for their service. The town hall meeting was an opportunity for veterans to express their views and ask questions of VA representatives. In addition, there was a ribbon cutting for a 3900 square foot addition to the VA clinic. That includes fifteen exam rooms for audiology and optometry. The clinic now has 20,000 square feet to serve veterans.
