August 3, 2021: It was Military Day at the Crow Wing County Fair. There was the annual Honor Guard ceremony with a presentation of the flag and singing of the Star Spangled Banner. Then the new Bataan Memorial was dedicated, honoring the nearly 75,000 American and Filipino soldiers who were forced to march 60 miles to a prison camp. Thousands died. Of the 64 Brainerd soldiers, only 29 survived captivity. The story was covered by the Brainerd Dispatch and Lakeland TV.
August 4, 2021: The Crow Wing County Fair drew thousands of people. Plenty of entertainment including bull riding. There was an antique car and tractor parade on Wednesday. The Brainerd VFW was there with one of the two beer gardens near the grandstands. It was a fund raiser for the fair and for the VFW. Thanks to the many volunteers who made this work.
