A flag was raised by a Vietnam veteran with the local honor guard present.
​August 29, 2023, 10 am: The Leinenkugel Band Shell was the gathering spot for music with military bands. In this case, it was the 34th Infantry Division Red Bull Band. A woman took the pledge to reenlist for another six years. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz thanked veterans for their service. There was a military helicopter flyover as flags were being raised.
August 29, 2023, 10:30 am: 2023 is the 50th anniversary of withdrawal of U.S. troops from Vietnam. There was a parade of about one hundred Vietnam veterans from Leinenkugel going through the fairgrounds to Dan Patch Park. Mark Persons from Brainerd VFW Post 1647 was one of them. Lots of applause from people along the route.
August 28, 2018: Military Day at the Minnesota State Fair. The Leinenkugel Stage had standing room only for performances by military bands.
The theme this year celebrated women in the military. Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton was there to talk to the troops.
